Alfred Grosser, born in Frankfurt in 1925, is a professor of political science and sociology and an internationally active publicist. Among other things, he is regarded as an important pioneer of Franco-German understanding after the Second World War. In November 2009, he introduced the Visiting Professorship for Civic Society Research with three lectures on "Civic Society and Democracy in Germany and France." Each winter semester, a selection committee chooses a visiting professor. Highlights of the visiting professorship are an opening lecture and a public lecture. The visiting professorship was occupied for the last time in the winter semester of 2023/24.
